The Tutoring Partnership for Academic Excellence provides the following tutor trainings:

  •  ABC’s of Reading: The Saint Paul Public Schools Foundation and the Minnesota Literacy Council have created a new workshop specifically for tutors working with Saint Paul Public School students. The ABC’s of Reading for SPPS provides information on strategies for working with students as well as classroom activities and curriculum used in Saint Paul Public Schools.
  •  Everyday Math: Together with the Foundation, Lori Haaland of SPPS has created an Everyday Math training that gives volunteer tutors the skills needed to work with elementary school students in math. The training introduces tutors to the Everyday Math curriculum and gives them strategies and activities to use with students.
  •  Math in the Middle: Marty Gaslin of SPPS provides a training session for tutors working with middle school students in math. He addresses the transition from the Everyday Math curriculum to the middle school curriculum. Volunteer tutors will receive useful strategies and tools for working with middle school students.
  •  Middle Grades Training: In collaboration with SPPS staff, the Foundation has developed a holistic training for tutors working with middle school students. The training provides tutors with basic skills required for working with students in grades 6-9, including strategies for tutoring in math and literacy. We also train tutors in specific strategies that support positive behavior and motivation for students in the middle grades.
