Tutor Requirements

The role of the SPPS Foundation's Americorps*VISTA is to recruit volunteer tutors for our partner programs.  The Foundation is also committed to providing tutoring partners with resources to train and retain high quality tutors. 

Tutor requirements:

• Commit to a minimum of 1 hour per week.
• Desire to work with students in math, reading and/or writing.
• 18 years or older.
• Ability to attend training and/or orientations.
• Ability to comply with SPPSF and program site guidelines.

Our tutoring settings include:

• In-school classroom during the school day.
• After-school classrooms.
• Community-based programs.
• Culturally specific programs.
• One-to-one or in small groups of 2-3 students

The benefits of working with our Tutoring Partnership:

• Tutors will have a direct impact on the academic achievement of SPPS students.
• Tutoring sites supply relevant curriculum, lesson plans, and materials.
• Tutors are supervised and supported by licensed teachers or professional staff.
• Tutors will receive training in tutoring techniques and SPPS curriculum.
